Just like Versailles, the Place Vendôme was a witness to the most glorious periods in the history of France: the reign of Louis XIV. The jewel of Paris as well as the symbol of absolute monarchy, at a time when Paris was largely made up of narrow streets with few open spaces, the Place Vendôme was a space where one could breathe freely. The largest fortunes were quick to install themselves here, thus assuring its worldwide renown.
Today the place Vendôme is the temple of Parisian jewellery, and gives onto Paris’s most brilliant quartier, with its haute couture, antique dealers, art galleries, the Opera and the Louvre museum. |
